REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Commander of the Indonesian Military General Moeldoko believes that former members of the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) were behind the killing of two security officers in Aceh province.

"There is a factional wing of the movement that wants to become popular," Moeldoko said at the TNI Headquarters in Cilangkap, Jakarta, on Monday (30/3).

According the general, the police and Indonesian Military are trying to identify the culprit behind the murder of two intelligence officers of the North Aceh Military Command, Second Sergeant Idra Irawan and First Sergeant Hendrianto.

"We are cooperating with police officers. My command is firm---pursue until we arrest them," Moeldoko remarked.

The general added that the homicide was carried out sporadically and without the use of any systematic process.

"We assumed that the incident was conducted in criminal context. It may have been done because the Indonesian Military officers discovered marijuana in three different areas measuring 15 hectares, 8 hectares and 1.5 hectares. We also found crystal meth during an inspection," Moeldoko noted.

He predicted that former members of the Aceh separatist group were annoyed with their efforts.

"We understand their message from their 'treatment' of our soldiers, who were stripped and shot to death. It was a clear message for us. Therefore, I will respond with firm messages for them," Moeldoko affirmed.

Both victims who were shot to death were members of the 0103 Military District Command of North Aceh.

Local people found the bodies of the two officers on Monday, March 23, after they were missing for several days and were believed to have been kidnapped by numerous armed people.

The Indonesian Military and police are still tracking the murderer.
