REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Ministry of Defense will buy 50 units medium tank Marder 1A3 and 10 supported tanks from German in addition to 103 units of Leopard. The final contract with the manufacturer, Rheinmettal AG, is expected to be signed in late September 2012.

The Vice Minister of Defense Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin on Wednesday welcomed the visit of German's Charge d'affaires to Indonesia represented by Heeidrun Tempel. "Rheinmettal AG will be in Indonesia to finalize the signing of the contract, conducted on the fourth week of September," he said on the press release.

He, hoping that the Leopard is already in Indonesia on the anniversary of Indonesian Armed Forces on October 5, said that Rheinmetall AG had prepared the first dispatch of Leopard.  Yet, due to unfinished administration and logistic, the Leopard will arrive in Indonesia on early November.

Sjamsoeddin said Indonesia's High Level Committee (HLC) was scheduled to meet CEO of Rheinmetall and Grob to see the production. Meanwhile, Heeidrun Tempel promised to help Indonesian on Government to Government.
