PDIP to fight for Ahok-Djarot in second round Jakarta gubernatorial race

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairperson of the Indonesian Democratic party of Struggle (PDIP) Megawati Soekarnoputri excited with the Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (Ahok) and Djarot Saiful Hidayat accomplishment in the Jakarta gubernatorial election. The pair incumbent were leading in Wednesday's (Feb 15) local election. Megawati hailed Ahok-Djarot as they managed to qualify to the second round.

Megawati remarked the quick count result showed peoples that voted for Ahok-Djarot reached 43.5 percent. "Jakarta was different with other areas. Even if we got the highest votes, but that must we must obtained at least 50 percent plus one vote," Megawati said in a press conference on Wednesday (Feb 15).

In spite of the quick count result, Megawati said she still requires official result from the Jakarta General Election Commission. PDIP has asked all cadres, participants, and volunteers to escort and secure the people's votes if Ahok-Djarot qualify and in the second round.

She also appreciated the Jakartans who use their right to vote. According to Megawati, the Jakarta gubernatorial race seemed to be more secure and peaceful. "Many people participated (voting) and this showed the passion in voting the leader for the next five years. It became Jakarta citizens' mellowness and maturity in choosing their leaders," Mega said.

The party that supported Ahok-Djarot in additionn to PDIP has also been prepared to conduct second round of Jakarta election. Through this second round, people could be have better knowledge which candidate deserves to be elected. "We begged and pleaded to be considered in order to be able to work," Megawati said.

Meanwhile Ahok thanked all those who have supported him to won in the first round. He said it was very risky for him with all the incidents that he believed to discredited him before the election.

However, with this result, Ahok said, the Jakarta residents have given the judgement on the work that he has built in the serving period. He said the peoples has shown their enthusiasm for him. "All that worked will remain solid. Indeed, our struggle have not finished. We would finish the unfinished struggle," he said.
