REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Anies Baswedan said here on Sunday that he had already seen signs of victory ahead of the Jakarta gubernatorial election on February 15. "It will be the determining stage ahead. The signs of victory have been closer. Let us work hard, invite all family members, neighbors and friends to elect Number 3," he said in a campaign rally in South Jakarta.

Anies said he could make the conclusion after seeing a lot of volunteers taking part to contribute to his victory. He said he considered the volunteers' actions for his victory as "jihad" and struggle to recover justice and welfare in the capital city which he believed could be realized through three programs including employment supply, better education and affordable basic necessaries.

The former education minister contests the Jakarta gubernatorial election with businessman Sandiaga Uno as his running mate. They would compete against incumbent governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama and vice governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat and Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, the son of former president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who pairs with former Jakarta administration official Sylvian Murni.

Prabowo Subianto, the leader of Gerindra Party that supports Anies and Sandiaga along with the Islamic Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), who attended the campaign event, had called on all community members especially party cadres and sympathizers to jointly fight and be ready to sacrifice for the truth and take back the nation's wealth. "We believe in Democracy. Never damage or spoil ballot boxes. Let us win back Jakarta to save Indonesia," he said to supporters.

Meanwhile, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono and Sylviana Murni visited former president BJ Habibie on Sunday following their competitors' steps before. He said during the meeting BJ Habibie expressed hope that they would work for the interests of the people of Jakarta if they win the election later.
