REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Myanmar authorities should be tried in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) for committing genocide and crimes against humanity.
"We also urge Myanmar to grant full citizenship to its Rohingya Muslim minority," lawmaker of the Prosperous Justice Party Sukamta stated here on Friday.
The Rohingya issue has become a global concern. Any country can level a genocide charge against Myanmar before the ICJ.
The member of Commission I of the House of Representatives said that several Islamic organizations had planned to protest on Saturday (Sept 16) against the persecution of the Rohingya in Myanmar.
Sukamta estimates that some 150 thousand people will participate in the Solidarity action for Rohingya.
He lauded the Indonesian government's efforts in addressing the Rohingya issue through diplomacy.

Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had earlier appealed to the Myanmar government to stop violence on its people.
"This evening, the foreign minister left for Myanmar to urge its government to stop and prevent violence and protect all its citizens, including Muslims, as well as grant access to humanitarian aid," he noted.
He made the official statement in the company of Coordinating Minister for Political, Security, and Legal Affairs Wiranto, Minister/State Secretary Pratikno, and Deputy Foreign Minister A. M. Fachir.
President Jokowi deplored the incidents of violence that had occurred in Myanmar since the past two weeks.
"All people in Indonesia and I deplored the incidents of violence that had taken in Myanmar's Rakhine State. A concrete action is needed instead of mere condemnation," he emphasized.
He pointed out that Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi will meet several international figures for finding a solution to the problem in Myanmar.
"I have assigned the foreign minister to intensively communicate with various parties, including UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Special Advisor to Rakhine State Kofi Annan," he said.
