REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of SOE Erick Thohir is optimistic that he can complete 99 percent of the strategic agenda of the transformation of the Ministry of BUMN before the term of Joko Widodo-Ma'ruf Amin's Government ends in October. Erick believes that of the 88 projects on the strategic agenda of the Ministry of state-owned enterprises, 87 of them will be able to be completed.
According to him, only one project missed, not because of incompetence but because of conditions that did not allow it to be completed.
“Alhamdulillah from the target of 88 projects, God willing 87 so. It may be one that is missed, due to the dynamics of the situation, but I will report it probably at the end of October only,” said Erick while attending the Family Gathering of the Ministry of BUMN at Plaza Keong Mas, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, Jakarta, Sunday (5/5/2024).
Erick explained that currently 82 projects have been completed. So there are still six projects in a few months left.
'Anyway out of 88 it's been 81-82, there's still six, but there's one that's pretty tough to finish. But yeah no way yes. We get the job done 100 percent,” he said.
Erick said that the achievement of 99 percent of these strategic projects will not be separated from the transformations that continue to be pushed in the Ministry of state-owned enterprises. He also believes that if this transformation continues to be pushed, it will allow state-owned enterprises to compete and become a bulwark of the national economy.
Erick underlines that transformation programs can only provide optimal results if they are carried out on an ongoing basis. The process taking place in developed countries, such as China, is a minimum of 15 years.
“The transformation of SOE is not completed within five years. If you want benchmarking with China it will take 18 years. So if a China that massively improves its country takes 18 years, then I don't think it's possible for the transformation of state-owned enterprises to be completed in five years,” Erick said.
Nevertheless, Erick said that he and the leadership in the Ministry of state-owned enterprises have prepared a blueprint for SOE until 2034, which is valid for the next 10 years. One of them strengthens the ecosystem.
For example, if our fertilizers and food are separate, in the future we will become one ecosystem. Because it's impossible to talk about food without discussing fertilizer.
“In the fertilizer itself there are still many shortcomings, namely the source of raw materials. We also create a blueprint, if we want to become the number 5 and even number 3 fertilizer producer in the world, then there must be certainty of the raw material. Everything is detailed so that our replacements all have blueprints,” Erick said.
A similar thing that Erick also did was to discuss the budget of state-owned enterprises in 2025, including the State Capital Inclusion (PMN). “As such, whoever our replacement later will know that there is work being done before,” Erick said.
