REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Erick Thohir has an ambitious mission: to conjure the face of Indonesian sport to be empowered on the world stage. His commitment is not foolproof, starting with the construction of the best athlete training facilities in Southeast Asia. A promise to ensure the Red White flutters higher at the global championships.
.“The planned construction of the athletes' training facility complex into the government's strategic program is immediately accelerated in the near future,” Erick Thohir said, confirming the seriousness of the move in a statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.
He explained that this strategic program is a direct mandate from President Prabowo Subianto. The president wants Indonesia to have the largest and best sports training center in Southeast Asia.
The area was designed not just an ordinary field. It will be a modern athlete training facility complex, based on sport science, and integrated as a comprehensive long-term coaching center.
Erick Thohir emphasized that the completeness of infrastructure facilities and the construction of this integrated ecosystem of formation and training of athletes are very important for achieving world achievements.
Menpora, representing himself and all Indonesians who long to see the achievements of world sports, expressed his deep gratitude to the President for his special attention to the field of sports.
“This means that Mr President is not fooling around in trying to make our nation an empowered nation on the international stage of sports. Because of the plan we set up this training center will be the best in Southeast Asia,” he said.
This government concern, he said, would be a motivational fuel for all parties involved within the achievement sport ecosystem to give their best for the sake of Red White. Including those athletes whose departure to every championship is to be the ambassador of the nation that brings the hopes of millions of people.
Menpora also added that in order to realize the strategic program, it will collaborate closely with across ministries in planning and implementing it. The goal is that tiered and long-term coaching can later be carried out consistently and lead to brilliant achievements. “It's a big dream of all of us, a dream to see Indonesia succeed in the eyes of the world,” he said excitedly.
Menpora added that it had conveyed to the President that there were 17 flagship sports that were designated as the focus of medium- and long-term coaching by the ministry he leads.
The determination is part of the mature preparations leading up to the 2028 Olympic Games. The goals are through the 2026 Asian Games and the 2027 SEA Games, based on in-depth studies including analysis of medal contribution potential, international achievement track record, national coaching ecosystem readiness and long-term prospects.
As part of its accountable and professional governance, it also designed promotion-relegation mechanisms between sports. This is done in order to constantly motivate each cabor to compete positively to be the best and not quickly become complacent.
