REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Sudanese Defence Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Daoud Kayan emphasized that Sudan is a good friend of Indonesia. Therefore, nothing should interfere with their relationship. He also stressed that Indonesia's enemies are Sudan's enemies.
"Indeed, Indonesia and Sudan have long been very friendly countries. Therefore, everyone who is hostile to Indonesia is an enemy of Sudan, and Sudan's enemies are Indonesia's enemies. We will be together in this goodness," Hassan said during a press conference at the Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Field of the Indonesian Ministry of Defence, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (9/9/2026).
According to Hassan, his visit to Indonesia was prompted by the many similarities it shares with Sudan. Moreover, his country also provides a number of scholarships to Indonesian students to study in Sudan. He revealed that his discussions with the Indonesian Defense Minister were productive. Therefore, he wants to cooperate more closely with Indonesia, particularly in the defense sector.
"We are gathered here because of our similarities in religion and culture, and we also provide many scholarships to Indonesian alumni who previously studied at the International University of Africa in (Khartoum) Sudan," he said.
Hassan acknowledged that Indonesia holds a special place in the eyes of the Sudanese people. "The Sudanese people greatly love the Indonesian people with Indonesia's various strengths, therefore we have come here to carry out a lot of cooperation so that the people of Sudan and Indonesia can directly benefit from the cooperation between these two countries," Hassan said.
