REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Pekanbaru Police has arrested HS (22 years old) as a suspect of the destruction of the Democratic Party's campaign attributes. The police revealed that HS's motive was for money.
"The perpetrator was tempted by money," said the spokeperson of Riau Police, AKBP Sunarto when confirmed by Republika.co.id on Tuesday (18/12).
HS said he was promised Rp150 thousand by people who told him to vandalized the billboards. However, he claimed that he has not received the payment.
Riau Police also have determined two suspects for damaging Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP)'s attributes in the Tenayan Raya area, Pekanbaru. The two suspects known by their initials, KS and MW, also claimed to have damaged PDIP attributes because they were lured by Rp150 thousand.
"They had same motives, they did it because they were tempted by money," he explained.
The police were conducting investigation to reveal mastermind of the case. According to the Riau Regional Police Chief Inspector General of Police Widodo Eko Prihastopo, these two cases were handled by Pekanbaru Police.
"The Riau Regional Police is committed to handle this case professionally and to complete it immediately and to delegate cases to prosecutors," Widodo said on Monday (Dec 17).
The three suspects from these two cases had been detained. They could be charged over 5 years in prison if proven to have violeted Article 170 of the Criminal Procedure Code juncto 406 concerning destruction.
