REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Golkar party politician who was just appointed as social affairs minister, Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita said his party would provide legal assistance to Idrus Marham. Agus officially replaced Idrus who resigned from his post on Friday (August 24).

“Golkar will help,” said Agus after his inauguration on Friday (August 24).

Idrus decision to resign was related to his involvement in alleged Riau-1 coal-fired power plant (PLTU) construction project bribery case.  He has submitted letter of resignation as Social Affairs Minister to president with a number of considerations.

Idrus explained, one of his considerations to resign was to maintain the honor of president as a leader who committed to eradicate corruption. In addition, he hoped that with his decision, the case that ensnared him will no longer become a burden for president in carrying out government duties.

Idrus considered that it would be more ethical to release his position before being named as a suspect in the graft case. He said if he becomes a suspect, it is morally unacceptable.

On Friday afternoon, KPK named Idrus as suspect in alleged Riau-1 coal-fired power plant construction project bribery case. "Suspect IM (Idrus Marham) is allegedly together with another suspect EMS (Eni Maulani Saragih) to have received gifts from JBK (Johanes Budi Kotjo), related to the agreement on cooperation contract for Riau-1 coal-fired power plant construction project," said KPK deputy chairman Basaria Panjaitan on Friday (August 24).

Previously, KPK has named Golkar Party lawmaker Eni Maulani Saragih house and businessman Johannes Budisutrisno Kotjo as suspects. Eni as alleged receiver of bribe is suspected of violating Article 12 letter a or Article 12 letter b or Article 11 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Eradication Corruption, also Article 64 paragraph (1) Criminal Code (KUHP).

Johanes as alleged bribe giver is suspected violated Article 5 paragraph 1 letter a or letter b or article 13 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Eradication Corruption, also Article 64  paragraph (1) Criminal Code (KUHP).

Idrus also resigned from Golkar Party Central Executive Board (DPP). He will concentrate on the graft case that involved him.

"Mr. Idrus is an extraordinary person. He resigned this morning from cabinet and DPP Golkar Party. We will follow up on this and hopefully he can finish this well," he said.
