REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Parliament (DPR) Speaker Ade Komarudin said the legislative body is awaiting a letter from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on the next police chief.
Police chief Gen.Badrodin Haiti would soon reach his retirement age but unconfirmed reports said the president still wanted to keep him in office.
"We have not received any information from President Jokowi. We are in the position of awaiting. It is for the president to decide," Ade said here on Monday.
Ade refused to comment on possible extension of term of office of the police chief.
"DPR is waiting for a move by the president," he repeated.
Meanwhile, Taufiqulhadi, a law maker from the Commission III it is better for all to wait for a signal from the president and avoid creating controversy about the issue.
He said the president restrains from making comment about the police chief issue merely to prevent a 'ripple' in the cabinet.
"Past experience makes the president more cautious this time," he added without going into details.
He said all parties should give wider room for the president "by us leaving it to the president to choose one he thinks best."
It is a prerogative right of the president to choose the state police chief, he pointed out.
