REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) deleted a point in Presidential Regulation Number 10 of 2021 concerning the Investment Business Sector which regulates the opening of investment in the alcoholic liquor industry. This was conveyed by the president in a press statement at the Merdeka Palace, Tuesday (2/3) this afternoon.

"I decided that the Presidential Decree's attachment regarding the opening of new investment in the liquor industry containing alcohol will be revoked," Jokowi said in his statement.

He said this decision was taken after he considered input from the ulama, including from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Muhammadiyah, NU, and other religious figures. The withdrawal of points regarding the opening of alcohol investment, the president added, also took into account input from provinces and regions.

The polemic regarding the opening of alcohol investment has been getting heavier lately. The Presidential Decree, which contains the derivative regulations for various investments, including regulating the problem of alcohol, has been met with controversy by various groups.

There were three groups that scheduled a press conference about the "alcoholic" Perpres. First, is the government through the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM).

Presidential Decree 10 of 2021 regulates details regarding the opening of alcohol investment. It was stated that new investment could be made in Bali Province, East Nusa Tenggara Province, North Sulawesi Province, and Papua Province by paying attention to local culture and wisdom. It was also stated that investment outside of letter a above could be determined by the Head of BKPM based on the governor's proposal.
