REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Switzerland have agreed to renew their air service agreement, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi said here on Wednesday.

The minister, who accompanied President Joko Widodo in a meeting with Swiss vice president Doris Leuthard at Merdeka Palace, said Leuthard would sign a cooperation agreement with the Minister of Transportation.

"In the field of economy, a cooperation agreement would be signed with the Minister of Transportation," she said.

Transportation Minister Ignasius Jonan said he would renew air service agreement with the Swiss government on Thursday.

He said the agreement, signed earlier, has to be renewed in the light of increasing number of direct flights between Indonesia and Switzerland.

"It was signed earlier but will be renewed. Hopefully, more direct flights will happen between Switzerland and Indonesia," he said.

Jonan said talks would possibly also cover cooperation in the field of transportation with the Swiss government.

"The issue of cooperation on railway and flight services will be discussed at the meeting tomorrow," he said.

Minister Retno Marsudi and Minister Jonan flanked President Joko Widodo during the meeting. Leuthard was here with a business delegation with the aim to enhance Swiss investment in Indonesia.
