REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo said the construction of the airport must be followed by an effort to promote tourist destinations in Gayo highlands and it is surrounding area.

"Regent of Bener Meriah and Regent of Aceh Tengah must be able to promote Laut Tawar lake," President said when inaugurated Rembele Airport, Aceh on Wednesday (2/3).

President added tourism promotion must also be carried out through collaboration, such as Ministry of Tourism and other provincial governments.

"The nearest province in North Sumatera province, so tourism can also be done in that province," President said.

President said the airport does not only serve tourists but also connects Bener Meriah Regency and Aceh Tengah Regency with other islands and provinces in Indonesia.
