Indonesia and South Korea Launch Pilot for Cross-Border QRIS Payments

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Bank Indonesia (BI) has started testing the use of Quick Response Indonesia Standard (QRIS) Cross Border with South Korea (South Korea). BI was launched as part of the Festival of Digital Economy and Finance (FEKDI) x Indonesia Fintech Summit & Expo (ISEF) 2025.

“We have already connected QRIS Cross Border with Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, China, and today we are launching with South Korea, a sandboxing trial,” said BI Governor Perry Warjiyo at the FEKDI x ISEF 2025 agenda at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, Thursday (30/10/2025).

Perry said that by conducting trials of the use of QRIS Cross Border with South Korea, it is ensured that its implementation can be realized soon by 2026.

“Now the sandboxing trials, next year is starting to kick in,” Perry said.

It is hoped that with the launch of the QRIS Cross Border trial, the payment system between the two countries can be easier and more efficient. BI is committed to continuing to strengthen digital acceptance through the use of QRIS Cross Border that is increasingly deployed.

Perry said that BI will expand in conducting QRIS Cross Border cooperation with other countries in the future. Among them are India and Saudi Arabia.

“QRIS is not only a symbol of our country's sovereignty, NKRI, but also a cross border,” he said.
