REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesia's Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN) Authority has reiterated that the construction of the new capital is progressing firmly and without hesitation, with the goal of establishing IKN as Indonesia’s political center by 2028. Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, emphasized that the development has reached an irreversible stage.

“There is no doubt in the process of building IKN. Every step taken is fully aligned with achieving the President’s directive to make the new capital the country’s Political Capital by 2028,” Basuki said during his remarks in Jakarta on Thursday (30/10/2025).

He noted that the President’s vision, commitment, and direction guide the entire IKN Authority in fulfilling this development mandate. Basuki added that the team continues to work with confidence and optimism, ensuring each development initiative is carried out consistently, transparently, and with tangible benefits for the public.

“What we are creating is not merely a new city, but the future of Indonesia. And that future is being built together,” he stated.

As the administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka marks its first year, the construction of IKN has shown significant progress and strong momentum.

With the issuance of Presidential Regulation No. 12 of 2025 concerning the 2025–2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the government has reaffirmed its commitment to continue and accelerate the development of IKN as a symbol of progress and equitable development.

Additionally, Presidential Regulation No. 79 of 2025 on the Updated 2025 Government Work Plan provides guiding policies for national development, including accelerating IKN construction. The regulation, signed on June 30, 2025, targets IKN to function as Indonesia’s Political Capital by 2028, supported by the relocation of civil servants and the preparation of adequate infrastructure.

In marking one year of President Prabowo’s administration, the IKN Authority highlighted that various achievements in the new capital align with the government’s five key national development priorities: economic stability, social welfare, education and human resource development, food security, and public health.

From an economic perspective, IKN’s development underscores ongoing national economic growth supported by state funding, public–private partnership schemes (KPBU), and private investment. President Prabowo has approved Rp 48.8 trillion in funding for IKN development for the 2025–2029 period. However, financing does not rely solely on the State Budget (APBN); the project also draws investment from domestic and international partners.

To date, the IKN Authority has secured investment commitments totaling Rp 225.02 trillion, consisting of Rp 66.3 trillion in private investment and Rp 158.72 trillion through KPBU schemes for projects such as multi-utility roads, tunnels, and residential development. This investor confidence reflects continued national economic stability and reinforces the capital development foundation.

IKN development also aims to improve the welfare of local communities and surrounding regions. So far, more than 879 training programs have been implemented to enhance community capacity, competitiveness, and quality of life. This demonstrates that IKN’s development is not only about physical infrastructure, but also about building human capital and strengthening socio-economic resilience in the region.
