REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Two South Korean investors expressed an interest in investing in the Indonesian electricity sector during a meeting with Vice President Jusuf Kalla in Seoul on Friday.

The two investors are a state-owned firm engaged in the electricity sector and a private company dealing with smart solutions to issues of energy and renewable energy supplies, the Head of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Franky Sibarani, said in a press statement released on Saturday.

The BKPM Chief also accompanied Vice President Kalla to South Korea.

"The South Korean state electricity company is eager to submit a tender for the construction of power plants in Banten and West Java provinces with a capacity of 2x1,000 megawatts each. The company plans to invest Rp80 trillion (in the two projects)," he said.

Sibarani said the South Korean private firm plans to open its representative office in Indonesia and conduct a feasibility study on the supply of electrical power to Indonesia's remote areas.

"This is a follow up to a one-on-one meeting with the Indonesian Vice President," he said.

During his stay, Kalla also met with the management of a South Korean telecommunications giant.

The company is in the middle of constructing its plant in Cikarang, West Java. It has secured an in-principle permit from the BKPM to invest Rp6 trillion in Indonesia.
