President: No shortcut to improve Indonesia's economy

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo invited all parties, especially the businessmen to be more optimistic about the economy of Indonesia. Jokowi said the current economic slowdown was not as terrible as in 1998.

The president said Indonesia's economy required the structural reforms. And improvement of the economy could not be done with a shortcut.

"There are no shortcuts and no magic bullet, I cannot say 'sim salabim' then the problem is resolved, I cannot. There is nothing like it and people should be aware there is not bim salabim and everything can be resolved," he explained in JCC, Jakarta, on Thursday, July 9.

But according to him, the current economic slowdown was not as terrible as the monetary crisis in 1998. Logically, on the crisis which was more devastating Indonesia could survive, moreover which was currently happened.

He considered the problem that was happening now could be faced with hand in hand. In addition, the business world could work together to revive the economy at this time.

The President said, if the employers were not to be optimistic, then who was going to make an investment.
