REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, AMBON -- Light aircraft operator Susi Air will start new flights to connect remote areas in the eastern Indonesian province of Maluku, starting February 2015, according to a local transportation official.

"Susi Air's light aircraft, with a capacity of less than 20 seats, will be operated to connect the remote areas in Central Maluku district and elsewhere," local air transportation official John Rante stated here on Friday (23/1).

Rante pointed out that starting February this year, Susi Air planes will serve the routes of Ambon-Namlea, Ambon-Amahai, Ambon-Wahai, and Ambon-Banda, all of which are in Central Maluku district. However, he has yet to elaborate on the flight schedules and the ticket price for each route.

He lauded Susi Air's plan to connect remote areas by starting new flights in Central Maluku, a region that has relatively limited connectivity as other airline companies have shown minimal interest in operating their aircraft to serve these routes.

"Susi Air's plan to operate these new flight routes in Central Maluku will certainly support the smooth running of the local government, development, and social services," Rante noted.

When questioned about other new flights to West Southeast Maluku and Southwest Maluku districts, Rante said he was unsure about which airline company would serve the routes.

He explained that new flights are yet to be started on Ambon-Kisar, Kisar-Moa, Kisar-Saumlaki, Saumlaki-Larat, and Larat-Langgur routes in the two districts.
