REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI -- The Trade Ministry has called on all provinces to establish Consumer Dispute Settlement Boards (BPSK), Chief of Directorate General for Standardization and Consumer Protection Widodo said here on Wednesday (3/12).

According to Widodo, the Trade Ministry is willing to help local governments establish consumer dispute settlement boards. However, local governments must bear the operational costs of their respective boards.

Widodo noted that the boards will help settle consumers' complaints outside of courts. The boards will have the authority to question disputing parties and verify evidences such as bills or lab tests.

"Consumer disputes can actually be settled through mediation or consolidation. The BPSKs can play mediators between disputing parties," Widodo remarked.
