Vice President: Fuel price to increase before 2015

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Vice President Jusuf Kalla ensured that fuel price would increase before 2015 to keep state budget.

The fuel subsidy will be transferred to other productive sectors, such as infrastructure development and health fund. However, Kalla could not disclose whether the government would immediately revoke fuel subsidies simultaneously or through several steps.

"We want to keep the state budget," Kalla said after a meeting with Chairman of Advisory Council of the National Mandate Party (PAN) Amin Rais in Jakarta recently.

Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo and Kalla have signalled the plan of fuel price increase before serve as president and vice president. Jokowi's Transition Team and the Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) has also urged former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to raise the fuel price before Oct 20, but he rejected it.

Jokowi and Kalla have declared that the fuel price increase could be implemented on Nov 1. The price of subsidized premium gasoline likely to increase by 3,000 IDR per liter from the current price of 6,500 IDR per liter.
