REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Vice President (VP) Ma'ruf Amin instructed all stakeholders of the national level to optimize the transformation of waqf implementation. This effort, he asserted, was essential to make positive progress and development on the waqf sector.

“Many beneficiaries of social, educational, health, as well as economic empowerment programs and small micro-enterprises have felt the support and immediate benefits of productive waqf management,” said Indonesian Vice President Ma'ruf Amin during the opening of the National Coordination Meeting of the Indonesian Waqf Agency 2023 in Jakarta, Monday (4/12/2023).

Waqf, which was previously predominantly social in nature, has now transformed into more productive forms. Therefore, it needs a more solid management as well as community empowerment.

Not only that, the VP said, the awareness of the waqf today has greatly increased. The younger generation, across professions and social structures, become more aware of waqf as a result of the emergence of various productive waqf instruments.

“Waqf stakeholders are also getting wider, not just being the task area of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Indonesian Waqf Agency, but it has involved many ministries and institutions, up to the sharia banking industry,” he said.

Later, from the side of the waqf or nazir managers, according to the Vice President, awareness about the importance of professionalism, competence, and good governance also continued to grow.

Taking into account these conditions, the Vice President instructed the Ministry of Religion and the Indonesian Waqaf Agency, as the main stakeholders of the national representation, to optimize the transformation of the national waqf management.

One of them is through the process of digitizing national representatives through Indonesia's Satu Waqaf Platform which is integrated with the Waqf Information System (SIWAK) of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as the system of the Ministry of ATR/BPN and other related agencies.

The Vice President added that the platform is expected to be a digital ride that further accelerates the development of productive waqf in the country.

“For ministers and business managers, for example, it is necessary to be encouraged to actively collaborate, both in terms of funding and the implementation of other productive waqf programs,” he said.
