REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The National Committee of Indonesian Youth (KNPI) Chairman Taufan E. Rotorasiko has urged President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo's cabinet to lay greater emphasis on youth development in Indonesia.

"Youth is the biggest investment of Indonesia's future," Rotorasiko stated on Tuesday.

According to him, youth development should be the new government's priority in a bid to anticipate globalization. Indonesia must make better preparations to contribute to the ASEAN economic community by 2015, he emphasized.

"The youth must position themselves as the subject and derive maximum value from the implementation of the ASEAN Economic Community. The youth should not become merely both the object and the target market," he stressed.

He noted that the government must provide job training in certain skills to strengthen the creative industry base, master information technology, and implement an adequate logistics distribution system. In addition, the workers should master the language to dominate the market at regional and international levels. Therefore, he pointed out that the Indonesian youth should strive to imbibe the three traits of being noble, nationalist, and independent.

"KNPI will become a strategic partner to build the character of Indonesian youth that has the potential to become productive and competitive in the Republic of Indonesia," he added.
