Jakarta Marathon Festival to promote Indonesian culture

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BALAI KOTA -- Jakarta provincial government will hold Jakarta Marathon Festival 2014 on Sunday, Oct 26, 2014. The international race will be held for the second time featuring arts and cultures of the Indonesian Archipelago.

Jakarta's cultural and tourism office said that this event would promote Indonesian culture globally. With cultural performances, residents and tourists who attend this event are expected to get important information about the uniqueness of each region in Indonesia.

"We hope that this event will equal to other marathon festival in various countries," Head of Jakarta's cultural and tourism office, Arie Budiman said on Wednesday.

City government will deploy several mobile stages along the track. In each stage, there are cultural attractions of Indonesia displayed. There are four types of marathons, namely full marathon (42,195 km), half marathon (21 km), 10 km marathon, and children's sprint (1.3 km).

The route for marathon is designed, so that all participants can see many historical sites in Jakarta, such as the National Monumen (Monas), Kota Tua area, Fatahillah Museum, the Istiqlal Mosque, the Cathedral and Hotel Indonesia.
