India and Indonesia to sign MoU on cultural exchange

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Gurjit Singh, said that Government of India and Government of Indonesia are expected to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cultural Exchange.

"A procedure for Implementing the treaty has been completed," he said, in Embassy of India, Jakarta, Wednesday (28/10).

He explained, there was a major breakthrough in cooperation between India and Indonesia in the field of culture. One of them was the holding of "Friends of India."

According to him, "Friends of India" brought a spirit and power of India in the areas of social, economic, and cultural engagement with Indonesia to a new level. In this cooperation, the Embassy of India also presented a series of festival of India in Indonesia from 26th January until 15th August 2015, including the screening of Bollywood movies, folk dance performances, musical performances, and exhibitions.

"Friends of India is much favored by the younger generation of Indonesia and provide refresher relationships between people in the two countries," Singh explained.

The cooperation between India and Indonesia was based on affinity of historical and cultural ties. Not only culture cooperation, India and Indonesia also established several other cooperation, such as energy and law.

"Since the election of new governments in India and Indonesia in 2014, there has been several high level engagements between two countries," he added.
