REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Till 12 noon on Tuesday, around 72 thousand people visited Ragunan Zoo in East Jakarta, but the number would continue to increase until late in the afternoon, zoo spokesman Wahyudi Bambang said.

"Until late in the afternoon, the number of visitors will exceed 72 thousand because after 1 pm they have continued to trickle in," Bambang said, adding that during the Eid al Fitr holidays this year, the number of visitors was more than that in the same period last year.

He noted that on the second day of Eid al Fitr last year, 69,721 people had visited the zoo, but by 12 noon on Tuesday the figure had reached 72 thousand.

"On the first day of Eid al Fitr last year the number was 23,935, but on Monday it rose to 28,779," Bambang remarked.

He explained that during the first three hours from 7 am to 10 am, the number of visitors had reached 33,858 and continued to increase to 72 thousands by noon.

"They did not come alone, but in a group of five to ten people to enjoy the 140-hectare zoo, which is home to more than 270 species of animals, many of which are endangered and threatened, from all parts of Indonesia and the rest of the world, and 171 species of flora.
