REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Thousands of travelers were stranded in Merak and Bakauheni ports since Friday or three days before Eid al-Fitr. They had to wait longer as the number of buses were not enough to accomodate them.
Travelers and four wheeled vehicles queued up at Terminal II and III. While the number of travelers using motorcycles are still in normal.
Until 07.00 AM, most of passengers from Merak to Bakauheni increased and most of them were travelers taking public transportation, motorcycles and private vehicles. Similar conditions will be seen at Bakaheuni port during the returning season after Eid al Fitr.
In order to prevent the stranded passengers, state owned seaport operator, PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry has organized at least six ticket booths for motorcycles and four ticket booths for private vehicles and buses. Parking area at Merak port can accommodate 6,000 private vehicles.
