REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A research institution has announced that former trade minister Gita Wirjawan from the professional circles has the best chance to become a vice presidential candidate in next July 9, 2014 presidential race.

Research Director of Survey Nusantara Network (SNN) Kenly Meidy Poluan said in a written statement made available here on Monday that Gita's name was the most popular and has a good track record among professionals apart from Rizal Ramli and Bank Indonesia's Governor Agus Martowardojo.

Gita has the chance after the daily executive chairman of the ruling Democratic Party (PD) Syarif Hasan announced that his party would not nominate any presidential candidate even though it had previously conducted a presidential convention which was joined by 11 participants.

The PD canceled its plan to nominate its own presidential candidate following the unofficial results of quick count in last Wednesday's legislative elections which earn it a vote gain less than 10 percent and placed it in the fourth position.

Gita Wirjawan was one of the 11 contestants in the PD's presidential candidate convention.

Kenly Poluan said the three figures from the professional circles were most popular and have significant supporters. They are acceptable to the market and business players for a vice presidential candidate.

"The three have their own mature experiences in their respective fields," Kenly Poluan said.
