NGOs: Political parties not transparent in reporting their campaign funds

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Coordinator of the People's Voter Education Network (JPPR), Mochammad Afifuddin said that the initial reports of campaign financial funds of political parties were still half-hearted. He found those reports were not fully transparent.

"Political parties are still half-hearted and for formality only," Afifuddin said recently.

While earlier, coordinator of Political Division in Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW), Abdullah Dahlan said that political parties had violated campaign rules if they did not reported their campaign fund.

There are 12 political parties to contest in 2014 general election. They have submitted their campaign financial reports to General election Commission (KPU). The Great Indonesia Movement (Gerindra) Party has the largest campaign fund worth 306 billion IDR.

Gerindra Party previously reported its campaign funds and banking account during first period per December 27, 2013. In the report, they also explained the amount of political funds in second period.

Treasurer of Gerindra Party, Thomas Djiwandono admitted that only 70 percent of candidates reported their campaign funds to the party. Gerindra is commited not to receive third party contribution, such as donations of individuals, groups or businesses. While Treasurer of National Mandate Party (PAN), Jon Erizal said that there were six percent of candidates who had not submitted their reports.

Head of Finance Division of Golkar Party, Poniman refused to provide complete information about the party's campaign funds except mentioning that the figure up to 99 billion IDR. Golkar is also not receiving donations from third party.
