REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The General Chair of Muhammadiyah, Haedar Nashir expressed his congratulations to Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Yesterday, Indonesia's General Election Commission (KPU) has officially declared both of them as the next president and vice president of Indonesia. Haedar hoped that Prabowo and Gibran become leaders who prioritize the interests of the nation and the state above personal interests.

“The success of Prabowo-Gibran as the president- and vice president-elect is congratulated by many. But, I remind that the supreme mandate in the form of national obligations, responsibilities and burdens in bringing Indonesia forward is more important," Haedar told Republika, Thursday (21/3/2024).

According to Haedar, Prabowo as elected leader must have an agenda to pay off the country's debt that reaches IDR 8,000 trillion. The president-elect should also eradicate deep-rooted, widespread, and systemic corruption in this country.

“Depleted natural resources, social disparities that undermine social justice for all Indonesians, and other crucial national issues should also be of concern,” Haedar said.

Muhammadiyah as an organization is very committed to education. Therefore, Haedar added, Prabowo-Gibran should prove improvement efforts in this sector.

“More specifically defending and safeguarding Indonesia's sovereignty from the influence and massive investment of foreign parties. To make Indonesia truly a developed country in all spheres of life while maintaining the values of religion, Pancasila, and the noble culture of the nation,” Haedar said.

KPU has officially declared Prabowo Subianto and his running mate, Gibran Rakabuming Raka, as the next president and vice president of Indonesia. KPU chairperson Hasyim Asy'ari said in Jakarta late on Wednesday that of 164,227,475 legitimate votes, Prabowo-Gibran won 96,214,691 votes (58.59 percent). Their rivals, Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar, got 40,971,906 votes (24.95 percent). Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD gained 27,040,878 votes (16.46 percent).

Prabowo-Gibran won in 36 provinces, Anies-Muhaimin won in two other provinces, and Ganjar-Mahfud did not win in any province.
