Flood and LPG prices spark January inflation

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Statistic Indonesia (BPS) shows that January inflation reached 1.07 percent due to the price hike of LPG's (liquid petroleum gas) and recent floods in various regions in Indonesia. Flooding this year is longer than previous year and it disrupted goods' distribution, especially food supply.

"Floods disrupted food supply and affecting inflation rate," BPS Deputy Head for Distribution and Service Statistics, Sasmito Hadi Wibowo said on Monday. 

January inflation increased 0.4 percent compared to 1.03 percent in same period last year. The 12 kg LPG price also increased 1000 IDR per kilogram from its basic price. 

Energy component contributed 0.19 percent to national inflation or 2.63 percent out of 26.80 percent of annual inflation.
