REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita confirmed that Apple's official proposal regarding investment plans in Indonesia has been received. The proposal was submitted on Monday (6/1/2025) and is now in the negotiation stage between the technical team of the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) and the team from Apple.
“We have received an official proposal. Currently, the negotiation process is underway between our technical team led by the Director General and the Apple team,” Agus said during a meeting at his office on Tuesday (7/1/2025) afternoon.
Asked about the investment deal with Apple announced this week, Agus insisted the negotiations were not tied to a specific deadline, but instead focused on achieving substance that suited Indonesia's interests. “I've said many times that we don't set a time frame. It could be finished today, tonight, tomorrow, next week or even next month. Our target is not time, but substance,” Agus explained.
He explained that in the negotiation process, the Ministry of Industry maintained the principle of fairness, which includes four main points, namely the comparison of Apple's investments in other countries, such as Vietnam and India. Then a comparison of the investments of other HKT manufacturers in Indonesia, such as Samsung, Huawei, and Xiaomi.
Then there is the consideration of the added value generated for the national economy and the most important thing is the creation of jobs. “We want to ensure that this investment provides significant benefits to Indonesia, both in terms of added value, national income, and job creation,” Agus said.
Agus also said that the issue of Apple's investment has been of concern to the wider public. “Apple needs to understand that the public strongly supports this move. We at the Ministry of Industry conduct negotiations by safeguarding people's feelings and ensuring that regulations related to global content remain in place,” he stressed.
With the official proposal already received, Agus is optimistic that the negotiation process will go smoothly and produce a mutually beneficial agreement. “We continue to strive to safeguard the interests of the people and the country in this process,” he said.
