REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MATARAM - Visitors flocked to an old tomb complex in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara untill three days after Eid al-Fitr. One of religious leaders of Mataram, Junaidi (55 years) said some tombs were considered sacred and quite crowded by visitors, such as Batu Layar tomb in Senggigi (West Lombok) and Loang Balok and Bintaro tombs in Mataram.

"Visitors not only come from Mataram, but also from other districts of Lombok Island, including West Lombok, Central Lombok and East Lombok," Junaidi said on Tuesday.

Loang Balok tomb is quite unique since some banyan trees in the grave yard complex are as old as hundreds years. And the most sacred tomb is lying in the hole of the banyan tree. Loang Balok means "holed banyan tree" in Sasak language.  In Indonesia, people can find religion blends well with local tradition.
