REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - One of Indonesia's main charity collecting foundation, Dompet Dhuafa, targets to collect 88 billion IDR this Eid or increases from 60 billion IDR last year. Charity, or called zakat in Arabic, is obligatory payment under Islamic principle and used for charitable and religious purposes.

"Increase in fund management collected by Dompet Dhuafa during this holy month is a common phenomenon every year," Executive Director of Dompet Dhuafa, Ahmad Juwaini said on Tuesday.

Volume of charity collected by Dompet Dhuafa tends to increase this beginning of fasting month. The trend is expected to be higher in the third week until Eid festivity which falls in the second week of August.

Deputy Secretary of National Zakat Agency (Baznas), the largest zakat institution in Indonesia, Fuad Nasar said Baznas continued to establish cooperation with many government agencies and state owned enterprises to invite them to channel their funds through Baznas. Nasar is optimistic that fundraising target can reach more than 70 billion IDR during Ramadan.
