REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -  State-owned bank, PT Bank Tabungan Negara (BTN) and Bank Simpanan Nasional of Malaysia secure a deal to develop remittance services. The Malaysian bank will facilitate remittance services usually used by Indonesian workers in Malaysia.

President Director of BTN, Maryono said the memorandum of understanding had been signed last week. The contribution of Indonesian migrant workers.

"This business also gives opportunities to fee-based income of banks and we expect to get it. The potential of remittance services is very large and it's opened to many banks," Maryono said.

Based on data from the National Agency for the Placement and Protection of Indonesian Workers (BNP2TKI), at least 6.5 million people from Indonesia are working abroad and spread in 142 countries. Around two million of them work in Malaysia. In 2012, Indonesian migrant workers contributed 6.9 billion USD to this country's annual revenue.
