Indonesia-Malaysia agree to stop illegal workers

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia and Malaysia agreed to stop Indonesian illegal workers in Malaysia or illegal immigrants. Indonesia's Minister of Manpower Muh Hanif Dhakiri met with Malaysia's Minister of Interior Affairs Dato Seri DR Ahmad Zahid in Kuala Lumpur to discuss the matter.

"Indonesia and Malaysia will take serious efforts to combat Indonesian illegal workers in Malaysia," Dhakiri said on Thursday, December 18. Both governments also agreed to conduct legality for illegal workers who completed requirements.

Until November 2014, the number of Indonesian legal workers in Malaysia reaches 826,226 people, or 39.7 percent of foreig workers in Malaysia. Indonesia hopes that Malaysia can cooperate in term of repatriation of illegal workers as well as take firm action toward agency employing illegal workers.
