Govt allocates 2 trillion IDR for illiteracy eradication in NTT

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUPANG - Central government allocates two milliar IDR in state budget 2013 to eradicate the high rate illiteracy in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT). The budget allocation is only to target 575 groups or 5,750 people who spread over 22 districts and cities in the region this year.

"Number of people in East Nusa Tengara who fall into category of illiteracy are more than 192 thousand of people till now. It is high because we change the  illiteracy age from 15 -44 years old to 15 years to life," Head of School Education at Departemen of Education, Youth and Sports of NTT, Kornelis Wadu said in Kupang on Thursday.

Provincial government of East Nusa Tenggara also cooperates with non-governmental institutions, such as churches, religious organizations and Non Governmental Organization (NGO) to eradicate illiteracy in NTT. Provincial government provides budget to fight illiteracy rates between five to 10 thousand people per year. Whereas, if government is targetting illiteracy in East Nusa Tenggara expires, the allocation of the budget which must be provided at least to handle 3,000 to 6,000 groups.
