Swedish envoy visits Batam to discuss investment

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BATAM - Swedish Ambassador to Indonesia Ewa Polano, along with the state delegation, visited Batam Developer Agency (BP Batam) to discuss investment cooperation in Free Trade Zone (FTZ) of the island.

"Previously, a Swedish company has proposed Eco Airport concept to Hang Nadim International Airport. The current meeting is a follow up of the investment planning," said Director for Single Window Integrated Service and Public Relation of BP Batam, Dwi Wiwoho, on Monday.

According to him, the Eco Airport is an environmentally friendly facility concept by reducing CO2 emission, using energy-saving equipments, implementing waste sorting process, and reducing unnecessary activities as well as greening the area by planting trees. Eco Airport concept which is proposed by Swedish delegation have global environment mission that is to create airport that supports an efficient and sustainable development.

"The meeting of Sweden Ambassador and his counterpart, the Chief of BP Batam Mustofa Widjaya, is conducted in BIFZA Marketing Center of BP Batam," Wiwoho said.

He said Sweden Trade and Investment Commission in Indonesia also conducted cooperation visit to BP Batam. "The Commission also engages several Sweden aero space companies to Batam," he said.

He hopes Sweden companies invite Indonesia side as a partner to implement mutual cooperation program in aero-space sector. "They are aware of air traffic in Batam is crowded that indicates Hang Nadim Airport as a potential investment on Eco Airport which have been implemented in almost every European state," he added.
