REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Only 20 percent of 6.576 candidates for 2014 general election was qualified, a cadre of Democratic Party admitted. Many candidates rely on their popularity and just participate.

"We admit, Democratic Party has only around 15 to 20 percent of qualified candidates and i think other parties face similar problem," Democratic Party Trustee, Ahmad Mubarok said on Thursday.

He said currently qualified candidates were hard to find due to financial reason while those who qualified and have money usually have no interest to run for office.

The Secretary General of Democratic Party, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s second son, will run for office representing East Java VII in the 2014 elections. The party also puts five ministers as its MP candidates. While National Mandate Party (PAN) provide political training for its candidates.
