Denmark seeks stronger cooperation with Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Denmark and Indonesia commited to expand cooperation in various sectors. Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Villy Sovndal said he would put Indonesia as the country's top priority.

"Indonesia has been maintaining the stability in Southeast Asia. We want to create a closer relationship," Sovndal said on Thursday. 

Both countries has also signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen bilateral relations. They will develop cooperations in environment, economy, security and education. Sovndal noted that his country has an important economic and political influence in Europe that can help Indonesia. 

"Denmark with good economic situation as well as its politic and government, can be useful to Indonesia," he added.

In economic trade, Denmark has a vision of 'Emerging Market Strategy for Indonesia' which still running until 2016. Trade volume between both countries reached 402 million USD with surplus for Indonesia.

Indonesia’s main export commodities to Denmark include shoes, palm oil, forest products, tobacco and steel. Denmark, meanwhile, has been exporting pharmaceutical and chemical products, machinery, electronic goods, meat, milk products and fish to Indonesia.
