REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, LONDON -- Poland is looking forward to enhance cooperation with ASEAN member states as trade between the two sides currently stands at around US$7 billion, Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said.

He made the remarks at a meeting of the ASEAN Committee in Warsaw (ACW), led by Indonesian Ambassador to Poland Peter Frans Gontha in his capacity as the ACH chief.

The third secretary of the Indonesian embassy for information, social and cultural function in Warsaw, Jorrie Andrean, said in a statement made available to Antara correspondent in London on Saturday.

The meeting, which was held for the first time ever since the ACW was set up in 2013, was aimed at identifying the potentials to increase cooperation between ASEAN and Poland.

The Polish foreign minister further said his country also intends to increase cooperation with ASEAN member states by opening a trade center in Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, and reopening its embassy in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Peter Gontha said among the sectors that both sides can develop to increase bilateral cooperation, are agriculture, electricity and maritime.

ASEAN, with a population of 622 million, is the third largest economy in Asia and the seventh largest in the world, he said, adding that cooperation between ASEAN and Poland will benefit both sides.
