REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - People's Coalition for Fisheries Justice (Kiara) criticized that state budget 2013 unlikely support food diversification, despite the key factor for food resilience. "The government's target to diversify food will be hardly achieved in 2013 due to the weakness in political budget in state budget 2013," Secretary General of Kiara, M Riza Damanik, said on Wednesday.

The allocation for food security in state budget 2013 certainly increases three times, yet it is limited only to rice and crops. Damanik said government had not put their attention in fisheries.

"In only the government could increase its capacity in fishery products, then we can reduce our food dependecy," he continued.

Earlier, Asian Development Bank (ADB) said that the matter of future food resilience in Asia was challenging. "Asia will face great challenge to feed five billion people in 2030," Vice President of ADB on Science Management and Sustainable Development, Bindu Lohani, said. He predicted surging population and income, degradation of natural resources and climate changing would cause the soaring price of food.
