REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Discrimination against women still exists in Indonesia, Minister of Women Empowerment and Children Protection Linda Gumelar said prior to the Mother's day celebrated every Dec. 22. She admitted that women's rights in several sectors had not fulfilled yet.

"Men and women should have equal roles, including in development," Gumelar said on Friday.

Disregarding women's role would only lead to balance off every sector in national development, she said. Therefore, she said, the ministry was always determined to improve women's quality and empowering them through education, capacity building, and practical trainings.
