REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- PP Organization and Cooperation Chairperson Nasyiatul 'Aisyiyah 2016-2022 Nurlia Dian Paramita asked that women can play an active role in succeeding the 2024 General Elections. According to Mita, her familiar greeting, women need to exercise their voting rights independently and intelligently, given that the number of female voters is predicted to be more than the number of male voters.

“With awareness and knowledge of their political rights, women as voters will be able to exercise their right to vote independently and intelligently. Therefore, political education is needed to empower women,” Mita said, quoted from the official web of Muhammadiyah on Wednesday (20/12/2023).

Mita also detailed some points of importance of political campaigning for women. First, as a means of understanding the vision and mission of a prospective leader. Second, as a vehicle for assigning aspirations to prospective leaders regarding the needs of women. Third, look at the track record of potential leaders' partiality toward women's interests. Fourth, identify a fair candidate for leaders.

In this context, Mita encourages women to be active in supporting the democratic process and understand in depth their role in the upcoming general elections. These efforts are expected to have a positive impact on the sustainability of the struggle for women's rights and the sustainability of their participation in the national political sphere.

Not only encouraging the active involvement of women in the 2024 elections, Mita also expressed her views on some of the challenges that women may face in the process. One of the main challenges he identified was the potential low representation of women.

According to Mita, the low representation of women is not only due to non-fulfillment of the ruling of Bawaslu RI regarding the fulfillment of the Standing Candidate List (DCT) of 30 percent female by the Election Commission (KPU) RI. But also because of the low courage of women to engage in practical politics, as another factor contributing to the imbalance.

In order to welcome the 2024 elections, Mita proposed some steps that women can take. First, coordinate and cooperate with election organizing agencies, including KPU RI. Second, undertake advocacy and empowerment of women's issues to ensure that women's aspirations are accommodated in the political agenda.

Third, organize socialization and political education to improve women's understanding of their political rights. Fourth, actively engage in the conduct of elections to ensure transparency and integrity of the process. Fifth, conduct monitoring at each stage of the campaign to ensure that the campaign is inclusive and supports the interests of all walks of life, including women.

With this effort, Mita hopes to increase women's participation and representation in the political arena, create a more inclusive environment, and ensure that women's voices are heard and recognized in the democratic process in Indonesia.
