REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Indonesian Ministry for Religious Affairs in cooperation with the Muslim World League will hold International Conference on Fatwa in Jakarta on December 24-26, 2012.
"To decrease contemporary religious problems, we must reformulate Islamic law. It can be done only through fatwa mechanism," Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Bahrul Hayat, said on Wednesday.
Fatwa or religious ruling, is important when difference and confusion on Islamic issues emerge. "We must maintain the quality of fatwa. In this context, experts, academicians, and practitioners in Muslim world must enhance their competition in producing fatwa," Hayat explained.
About 300 participants from 20 countries are scheduled to attend the conference entitled 'Fatwa and Social Change'. The participants are ranging from Minister for Religious Affairs, experts, academicians and practitioners. Coordinating Minister for People Welfare, Agung Laksono, will open the event.
