REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Government will give compensation to breeders whose poultry is depopulated when avian influenza is considered as national disaster.

"If it is considered as national disaster, we have prepared reserve fund," Minister of Agriculture, Siswono, said on Friday.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Trade is coordinating with national committee on zoonosis prevention to measure the hazard level of this case. Vice Minister of Trade, Bayu Krisnamurti, said the ministry would monitor and restrict trade should the outbreak happen.

Government still investigates the infected poultry, whether they are domestic or imported poultry. Government will hand in hand with World Health Organization (WHO) and Food Agriculture Organization (FAO) to find the solution.

Avian influenza affected thousands of poultry in East Java several weeks ago. The virus is Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPA) H5N1 virus that mutated into (clade) 2.3.2.

The analysis of the DNA of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) virus results that the current avian influenza case is different from outbreak in 2005 that caused the death of humans.
