REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - The plan to implement one day without subsidized fuel on December 2 in Indonesia is cancelled. Initially, the program enables gas station to be operated serving only non-subsidized fuel in Java, Bali, Medan, Batam, Balikpapan, and Makassar.

"The program has been cancelled since the calculation shows that the effort is not worthy," Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik, said on Tuesday.

Prior to the implementation, government predicted such measure would save up to 120 kilo liters fuel or around 600 billion IDR per day. Yet, Wacik warned that people must know that the stock of subsidized fuel was running out.

Despite the cancellation, government will not add the quota of subsidized fuel. Vice Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Rudi Rubiandini said that government and Pertamina, state-owned oil and gas company, now only rely on people's awareness.

Minister of Finance, Agus Martowardojo, agreed that government must not add the quota of subsidized fuel. "The additional quota will only burden the state budget," he said.
