REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Jero Wacik rejected some claims made by mining companies that Supreme Court annulled Ministerial Regulation No. 7/2012 on banning raw materials export.

"In fact, the regulation is still valid," Wacik said on Tuesday.

However, he admitted that Supreme Court had indeed revoked the regulation but he was determined to appeal the decision. At this stage, he plans to ask a lawyer to study the case thoroughly.

Wacik admitted that the regulation had drawn complains from foreign and domestic mining companies. A Japanese company, for instance, asked the regulation to be revoked because it hampered its business.

Yet, Wacik underlined that the regulation aimed to increase the values of raw material, as generally mining companies tended to export raw material with the soil included. In fact, government expects the policy will encourage those who involved in mining industries to build shelter. “Hence, export only allowed for semi finshed or finished materials,” Wacik said.
