REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA - National Police Commission will open the case involving Novel Baswedan in Bengkulu. Baswedan, one of Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) investigator, was allegedly shooting six suspects killing one on charge of stealing swallow bird nest when he was chief detective in Bengkulu in 2004.

The investigation team is scheduled to depart for Bengkulu on Thursday, October 11. They will coordinate with the investigators of Bengkulu Police Department to seek for facts.

The Commissioner of National Police Commission, Adrianus Meliala, said the team would summon the victims and their family and also Baswedan's lawyer. "We are seeking for faults. We assume that there is no perfect crime," Meliala said on Tuesday.

Baswedan allegedly conducted the crime on 2004. The case reappeared after one of the victim identified as Iwan moaned that his leg, shot by Baswedan, was in pain. He said that he had to undergo surgery to remove the projectile. His family, asking for justice due to Iwan's condition, reported the case.

Due to the case, Baswedan attended disciplinary hearing because he violated Government Regulation No 2/2003 on Disciplinary of Police Members. He must be put behind a special bar for seven days.

Public Relations of Indonesian National Police Headquarter, Suhardi Alius, said the investigation kept on going with right mechanism according to President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s instruction. The Spokesman of National Police Headquarter, Boy Rafli Amar, said the investigation will be carried out, such as ballistic test and reconstruction.

Yet, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) still believes that Baswedan is not guilty because he was not at the crime scene when the shot happened. While SBY regreted the police attempt to arrest Baswedan in inappropriately.
