Türkiye Fully Supported the Repatriation Process of Indonesian Citizens

Nine Indonesian citizens were among the returnees to Türkiye.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Republic of Türkiye facilitated the release and safe return of Indonesian activists. Nine Indonesian citizens, who were detained following the attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla by Israeli security forces on 18 May 2026, arrived in Istanbul safely on 21 May 2026 after their release.

Following the detention of Indonesian citizens, the Government of the Republic of Türkiye and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia have been in close cooperation and coordination for the release of detainees. Türkiye fully supported the repatriation process of Indonesian citizens and provided all necessary facilitation.

Türkiye has sent three airplanes provided by Turkish Airlines for the safe return of all members of NGOs from 41 countries who participated the Global Sumud Flotilla. Turkish Foreign Ministry stated that 422 humanitarian aid volunteers were brought back safely and swiftly.

Nine Indonesian citizens were among the returnees to Türkiye. Indonesian Consul General in Istanbul met with the Indonesian citizens on their safe arrival. On the safe return of 9 Indonesian citizens facilitated by Türkiye. HE Sugiono, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Indonesia has said “We thank the Turkish authorities for their full support in assisting the return [of nine Indonesians]”.

The Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye in Jakarta sincerely hopes for the safe return of Indonesian citizens to Indonesia and reiterates its commitment to closely working with the relevant authorities in all areas.
